When we moved here in September 1997, the farm was in a run down condition.
We have created new driveways and a new courtyard laid with flower beds which are still maturing.
That is if the moorland sheep will let them, as they like to hop over the wall in the winter time when there isn't much grass on the moor, and have a good munch! We have also completely refurbished Cheesewring Cottage as this was in a very dilapidated condition.
There is still much to do to improve the farm and the other barns are to be converted into further accommodation.
Living on Cheesewring Farm
We have lived here on Cheesewring Farm since 1997 when we moved from the weald of Kent in the South East of England.
On purchasing the farm we spent three years renovating the property to a high standard. We are family people with three children and eight grandchildren.
Life and fun
We are now, at last, finding time to enjoy our hobby, which is carriage driving. We have three ponies, two Welsh Section Bs and a Dales pony, all of witch drive single, pairs or tandem.
Ray is also a farrier and runs his own business and has a working forge at the farm here where he builds our driving carriages.
We have two dogs - a Westie called Fizz and a Jack Russel called Milly. We love to walk on the Moors and on the coastal paths.
Built in the mid 1800s
Approached by a long private drive, set in the middle of 26 acres on the uplands of Bodmin moor, Cheesewring Farm was built in the mid 1800s as the former quarry managers residence. This farm extends to 26 acres of land, 20 of which are grazed by cattle, mainly Galloway and Shorthorn breeds.
The unusual name was taken from the legendary Cheesewring granite rock formation at the top of Stokes Hill, a few minutes from the rear entrance to the farm. A visit to the Cheesewring, one of the most popular attractions in Cornwall is not to be missed, with a fantastic view across the land of Cornwall and a wonderful energy.
